China's surveyed urban unemployment inched down to 5.4% in July 2022 from 5.5% in June. It was the lowest jobless rate since January, amid continued efforts by the government to revive the momentum of economic recovery by further loosening of COVID-restrictions. For this year, the government has targeted the jobless rate to stay around 5.5%. In July, the unemployment rate of the population aged 25-59 edged decreased to 4.3% from 4.5% in June, while those aged 16-24 increased to 19.9% from 19.3% in the previous month. Meantime, the surveyed unemployment rate in 31 large cities and towns declined to 5.6% from 5.8%. The average weekly working hours of employees in enterprises across the country climbed to 48.0 hours from 47.7 hours in June. Considering the first seven months of the year, 7.83 million new jobs were created across China. Beijing has set a target of creating over 11 million new urban jobs for 2022 after adding 12.69 million a year earlier.
