Turkey Retail Sales Jump Most in A Year
Retail sales in Turkey rose by 20.8 percent year-on-year in May of 2022, accelerating from an upwardly revised 15 percent gain in the prior month. It was the sharpest gain in retail sales since May 2021 as sales rebounded for food, drinks, and tobacco rebounded (5.1 percent vs. -0.8 percent in April) and fuel (10.9 percent vs. -2.6 percent), while those advanced faster for non-food products (34.3 percent vs. 31.8 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales increased by 1.9 percent in May, following a revised 2.9 percent gain in the previous month.

Turkety Retail Sales Growth at 6-Month High
Retail sales in Turkey jumped by 14.7 percent year-on-year in April of 2022, the most since October last year, accelerating sharply from an upwardly revised 2.7 percent gain in the prior month, boosted by a sharp rise in sales of non-food products (31.3 percent vs 5.7 percent in March). Meanwhile, sales continued to decline for fuel (-2.8 percent vs -12 percent) and fell sharply for food, drinks, and tobacco (-1.1 percent vs 7 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales increased by 2.1 percent, following an upwardly revised 0.7 percent gain in the previous month.

Turkish Retail Sales Slow in March
Retail sales in Turkey rose by 2.5 percent year-on-year in March of 2022, slowing from an upwardly revised 6.5 percent gain in the prior month. Sales slowed further for non-food products (5.7 percent vs 12.9 percent in February) while those declined sharply for fuel (-12.4 percent vs -0.3 percent). On the other hand, sales of food, drinks, and tobacco rebounded (6.4 percent vs -0.4 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales increased by 0.3 percent in March, following a 0.5 percent gain in the previous month.
