Total new capital expenditure in Australia unexpectedly fell 0.3 percent quarter-on-quarter in the three months to June 2022, missing market forecasts of a 1.5 percent rise and after an upwardly revised 0.4 percent increase in the previous period. The decline was mainly due to a fall in buildings and structures investments (-2.5 percent vs -0.6 percent in Q1), as equipment, plant and machinery grew further (2.1 percent vs 1.5). Through the year to June, private capital expenditure went up 2.0 percent.
