Imports to the Philippines expanded 26.0% yoy to USD 12.48 billion in June 2022, after a downwardly revised 30.2% jump in April. Still, the latest print was the 17th straight month of growth in arrivals and the 14th consecutive month of double-digit rise, amid strong domestic demand as the COVID-19 situation improved further as well as surging commodity prices. Arrivals gained for most commodity groups: mineral fuels, lubricants (125.1%), iron & steel (34.3%), telecommunication equipment and electricals (23.1%), other food & live animals (19.3%), transport equipment (17.0%), electronic products (9.9%), plastics in primary and non-primary forms (5.1%), and industrial machinery (4.9%). By contrast, purchases of cereal and cereal preparations edged down 0.7%. Imports went up from China (4%), Indonesia (101.7%), Japan (24.1%), South Korea (66.9%), the US (5.8%), Thailand (35.6%), and the ASEAN countries (49.3%); while dropped from Hong Kong (-10.1%), India (-6.7%), and the EU (-16.1%).
