Rich in natural resources, Australia is a major exporter of commodities. Metalliferous ores and metal scrap account for 29 percent of total exports; coal, coke and briquettes for 15 percent; and gas for 7 percent. The country also exports: food and live animals (14 percent), mainly meat (5 percent) and cereals (4 percent); manufactured goods (6 percent), mainly non-ferrous metals (4 percent); and machinery and transport equipment (6 percent). Australia Exports Hit New Peak
Exports of goods and services from Australia grew 5.1% mom to a new record high of AUD 61.53 billion in June 2022, amid surging commodity prices. Sales of non-rural goods rose by 1.6 percent to AUD 45.67 billion, driven by demand for metal ores and minerals (5.5%), metals - excl. non-monetary gold (27%), and machinery (3%). Further, shipments of rural goods jumped 11.8 percent to AUD 6.30 billion, driven by meat and meat preparations (12.0%), cereal grains and cereal preparations (21.1%), other rural (7.0%), and wool and sheepskins (10.6%). Meanwhile, sales of services climbed 3.3% to AUD 5.92 billion, due to higher sales of both travel (6.7%) and services (0.9%). Also, sales of non-monetary gold surged 63.8 percent to AUD 3.63 billion. At the same time, sales of net exports of goods under merchanting increased 5.6 percent to AUD 19 million.

Australia Exports Surge to New Record High
Exports of goods and services from Australia jumped 9.5% mom to a fresh record peak of AUD 58.40 billion in May 2022, amid surging commodity prices. Sales of non-rural goods soared by 9 percent to AUD 44.86 billion, driven by demand for metal ores and minerals (2.8%), coal, coke and briquettes (20.4%), other minerals fuels (11.8%), and other manufactures (7.1%). Further, shipments of rural goods were up 3.6 percent to AUD 5.61 billion, boosted by meat and meat preparations (6.0%), other rural (6.7%), and wool and sheepskins (12.9%). Meanwhile, sales of services rose 4.8% to AUD 5.70 billion, due to higher sales of both travel (9.4%) and services (1.0%). Also, sales of non-monetary gold jumped 71 percent to AUD 2.22 billion. By contrast, sales of net exports of goods under merchanting slumped 25 percent to AUD 18 million.
