The SECO consumer confidence in Switzerland declined to -41.7 in the third quarter of 2022, the lowest reading since a record low in the second quarter of 2020, as consumers were downbeat on the general economic outlook. Weaker sentiment was recorded for the general economic situation for the next 12 months (-53, which is well below its long-term average of -9 points) and the assessment of households' financial situation has never been so low (-35). At the same time, the propensity to make major purchases is far below average. On the other hand, perceptions of the labour market remain strong (-27) and the expected price development sub-index has receded slightly for the first time since autumn 2020 (115).
