Total construction work done in Australia fell by 0.4% on a quarter-on-quarter seasonally-adjusted terms in the three months to December 2021, missing expectations for a 2.5% gain and following a 0.3% decline in the third quarter. The fall was driven by a 1.3% decrease in building work done in the December quarter, which in turn resulted from a 2.9% drop in residential construction. Meanwhile, non-residential construction rose 1.3% and engineering work done increased 0.7%. On a geographical basis, total construction work done fell in Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory, while all other states and territories rose.
