Denmark has been reporting consistent trade surpluses since 1988. Denmark is self-sufficient in energy producing oil, natural gas, wind and bio energy. Its principal exports are machinery, chemicals and food products. Denmark imports mainly machinery and equipment, raw materials and semi manufactures for industry, foodstuffs and chemicals. Exports rose 0.7 percent to DKK 160.0 billion, while imports dropped 1.3 percent to DKK 136.0 billion. For the first half of the year, the trade surplus widened sharply to DKK 120.8 billion from DKK 82.2 billion.

Exports grew 4.9 percent to DKK 157.7 billion, while imports increased 0.9 percent to DKK 136.5 billion. For the first five months of the year, the trade surplus widened sharply to DKK 92.5 billion from DKK 65.2 billion.
